About this scholarship

[africaindex](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/author/africaindex/) [April 23, 2020May 25, 2021](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/2020/04/23/) # **I** **nformation About the Presidential Proclamation Suspending Entry of Certain Immigrants** Yesterday evening the President issued a [proclamation](https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/proclamation-suspending-entry-immigrants-present-risk-u-s-labor-market-economic-recovery-following-covid-19-outbreak/?fbclid=IwAR1hh8O5nbwHNzMCynRGs8Or1DHds_6ASk2Ya_UOgNHbVhf4xKxn7t2ST1I) suspending the entry of immigrants for a period of 60 days. The measure was first announced in a tweet sent out by the President on Monday night. Because we know that many of you are concerned as to whether and how this may affect you, we want to provide the following summary of the proclamation. **WHO:** The proclamation suspends entry of those seeking immigrant visas from outside of the United States. It DOES NOT affect individuals that are in the United States and applying for adjustment of status. It also does not apply to those seeking entry as non-immigrants, such as visitors (B-1/B-2), employees of intergovernmental organizations (G-4), students (F-1/J-1) and temporary workers (H-1B). There are several EXCEPTIONS to the proclamation for: - Lawful permanent residents - Physicians, nurses, or other healthcare professionals coming to perform medical research or other research intended to combat the spread of COVID-19; or to perform work essential to combating, recovering from, or otherwise alleviating the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak and their any spouses and unmarried children under 21 years old - EB-5 Immigrant Investors - Spouses of a United States citizen - Children under 21 years old of a United States citizen - Members of law enforcement - Members of the United States Armed Forces and any spouse and children of a member of the United States Armed Forces - Special Immigrant Visa holders in the SI or SQ classification, and their spouse and children - Anyone whose entry would be in the national interest - Individuals who have already been issued an immigrant visa **WHAT:** The proclamation is a temporary suspension on entry.  It is anticipated that application and processing steps that occur prior to the issuance of such immigrants will continue.  Once the proclamation is lifted or expired, those individuals will be allowed to enter the United States. It should be noted that most US Consulates have already been closed and unable to conduct interviews due to the COVID-19 pandemic. **WHERE:** As noted above, this affects only those who are outside of the United States. **WHEN:** The proclamation went into effect at 11:59 PM April 23rd and is set to expire in 60 days. It may be continued if deemed necessary. ### Share this: - [Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Facebook](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/us-suspends-immigration-what-does-that-mean-for-you/?share=facebook&nb=1) - [Share on X (Opens in new window)X](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/us-suspends-immigration-what-does-that-mean-for-you/?share=twitter&nb=1) - [Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)WhatsApp](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/us-suspends-immigration-what-does-that-mean-for-you/?share=jetpack-whatsapp&nb=1) - [Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)LinkedIn](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/us-suspends-immigration-what-does-that-mean-for-you/?share=linkedin&nb=1) - [Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Telegram](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/us-suspends-immigration-what-does-that-mean-for-you/?share=telegram&nb=1) - [More](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/us-suspends-immigration-what-does-that-mean-for-you/#) - [Print (Opens in new window)Print](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/us-suspends-immigration-what-does-that-mean-for-you/#print?share=print&nb=1) - [Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Reddit](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/us-suspends-immigration-what-does-that-mean-for-you/?share=reddit&nb=1) - [Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)Tumblr](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/us-suspends-immigration-what-does-that-mean-for-you/?share=tumblr&nb=1) - [Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)Pinterest](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/us-suspends-immigration-what-does-that-mean-for-you/?share=pinterest&nb=1) ### Like this: LikeLoading… ### _Related_ [New U.S. Travel Ban To Include Nigeria, Eritrea, Sudan, and Tanzania](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/new-u-s-travel-ban-to-include-nigeria-eritrea-sudan-and-tanzania/ "New U.S. Travel Ban To Include Nigeria, Eritrea, Sudan, and Tanzania") [Graduate Route visa allows international students to stay and work in the UK for 2 years after graduation](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/graduate-route-visa-allows-international-students-to-stay-and-work-in-the-uk-for-2-years-after-graduation/ "Graduate Route visa allows international students to stay and work in the UK for 2 years after graduation") [How to Increase your Chances of getting a U.S. Visa](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/how-to-increase-your-chances-of-getting-a-u-s-visa/ "How to Increase your Chances of getting a U.S. Visa") In[Immigration](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/tag/immigration/) ### Leave a Reply[Cancel reply](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/us-suspends-immigration-what-does-that-mean-for-you/\#respond) Post a Comment Δ This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. Sit your tests, draft a personal statement, request transcripts and confirm reference letters.

  3. 3 months out

Finalise essays, upload supporting documents, complete the online application portal.

  4. 1 month out

Final review, double-check uploaded files, submit a week before the deadline to avoid portal issues.

  5. Application deadline

Submit by 23:59 in the sponsor's stated time zone — usually local to the sponsor, not your country.
