Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 8, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Scholarships for Africans ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses and shares information when you use scholarshipsforafricans.com (the "Site"). By using the Site you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Email address — when you subscribe to our newsletter or create an account.
- Profile information — display name and avatar if you choose to add them.
- Preferences — country, level of study and topics of interest you select.
- Saved scholarships — items you bookmark while signed in.
Information collected automatically
- Anonymous analytics events (page views, clicks, A/B test variants) tied to a random visitor ID, never to your name.
- Standard server logs (IP address, user agent, referrer) used for security and debugging.
- Cookies and similar storage — see our Cookie Policy.
2. How we use information
- To send the newsletter and scholarship alerts you signed up for.
- To personalise content (e.g. surfacing scholarships matching your country or interests).
- To measure and improve the Site (which articles help, where users get stuck).
- To prevent abuse, spam and security incidents.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. Legal bases (GDPR / similar laws)
We rely on (a) your consent for newsletter subscriptions and non-essential cookies, (b) legitimate interest for analytics and Site security, and (c) contractual necessity for account features such as favorites.
4. Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data only with vetted processors who help us run the Site:
- Hosting, database and authentication providers.
- Email delivery providers for newsletter and transactional emails.
- Privacy-respecting analytics services.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, property or safety of our users or the public.
5. Data retention
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe, then we keep a hashed record so we don't re-add you by mistake.
- Account data: while your account is active, deleted within 30 days of an account deletion request.
- Analytics: aggregated, retained up to 24 months.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port or restrict processing of your personal information, and to object to processing or withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, email us at the address below.
You can unsubscribe from any email instantly using the link at the bottom of every newsletter, or via our unsubscribe page.
7. International transfers
Our infrastructure may process data outside your country of residence. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.
8. Children
The Site is intended for users aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards including encryption in transit, row-level security on our database, and least-privilege access controls. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the Site and, where appropriate, by email. The "last updated" date above always reflects the most recent revision.
