It has earned national recognition for cancer research and the development of the magnetic resonance imager (MRI). Michigan State has the largest residence hall system of any university in the nation, and it also houses the world’s most powerful superconducting cyclotron. It is the only university in the nation with three medical schools on one campus: human, osteopathic and veterinary. Programs are offered through the Colleges of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Arts and Letters, Communication Arts and Sciences, Education, Engineering, Human Ecology, Natural Science, Nursing, Osteopathic Medicine, Social Science, and Veterinary Medicine; Eli Broad College of Business; and the James Madison College. Its 5,200-acre campus is located in East Lansing, 80 miles northwest of Detroit. Entrance exams at MSU are rated moderately difficulty, with a 76% overall admission rate. Qualifications for enrolling freshmen include an average GPA of 3.74. Its in-state tuition and fees are $14,460; out-of-state tuition and fees are $39,766. Students can join more than 900 student clubs, including 60-plus fraternities and sororities. The university has one of the largest single-campus residence hall systems in the U.S., and freshmen must live on campus, with a few exceptions. Students can take advantage of more than 275 study abroad programs. ## List of Available Scholarships The following scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen with non-U.S. residency status. Unless noted otherwise, the application for admission is all that you need to submit in order to be considered for each award. **Only a limited number of students who are considered will receive offers for any of the following scholarships. See the [international scholarship regulations](https://admissions.msu.edu/-/media/assets/admissions/docs/intl-scholarship-regulations.pdf) for further details regarding these awards. ### **\#YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship** This grant is awarded to a select group of international undergraduate students who demonstrate a commitment to furthering the #YouAreWelcomeHere message by bridging intercultural divides. It covers $25,000 towards tuition annually, renewable for eight semesters. **The [**#YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship application**](https://admissions.msu.edu/-/media/assets/admissions/docs/you-are-welcome-here-scholarship-application-2021.pdf) is required.** This scholarship cannot be stacked on top of the International Tuition Grant. \*Supplemental application required ### **International Tuition Grant** Awarded to academically competitive incoming freshmen with non-U.S. residency status applying from schools outside the United States. This scholarship may be awarded as $25,000, $21,000 or $18,000 per year for eight semesters. International Tuition Grant consideration is holistic and will consider academic performance, student involvement, the application essay, English proficiency and geographic diversity. Awarding is competitive and the highest level of International Tuition Grant is typically limited to students in the top 5% of MSU’s applicant pool. Priority consideration will be given to students who apply to MSU by December 1. Students applying after December 1 may also qualify as funds are available. This scholarship is not available to U.S. citizens, permanent residents or transfer students and does not typically stack with other Office of Admissions scholarship funding. ### **Global Ambassador Grant** Awarded to academically talented international freshmen applicants who exceed the admissions requirements, but do not qualify for the International Tuition Grant. This $7,000 is awarded annually for eight semesters. Global Ambassador Grant consideration is holistic and will consider academic performance, student involvement, the application essay, English proficiency and geographic diversity. ### **Red Cedar Scholarship** Awarded to dependents or grandchildren of Michigan State University alumni; $1,250 annually, renewable for eight semesters. ### **Presidential Study Abroad Scholarship** Awarded for use with an MSU-sponsored or co-sponsored study abroad program outside of the United States; $3,000 or $5,000, depending upon the length of the program. Award must be used with the first eight semesters of enrollment as an undergraduate at MSU or before completion of the undergraduate degree, whichever occurs first. ## Honors College scholarships for high-achieving students In order to be eligible for the following scholarships, you must be an incoming freshman who has been invited to the Honors College. There is no separate application process for the Honors College. All students who apply to MSU will be considered for the Honors College. Consideration for these awards is automatic, and no additional applications are required. In some cases, a limited number of awards is available. ### **Honors College Excellence Scholarship** Awarded to a select group of non-Michigan residents and international students who are Honors College invitees. The Excellence Scholarship awards $13,000 annually over eight semesters. ### **Professorial Assistantship** Offered to a select number of international and homeschooled Honors College invitees based on a holistic review of their individual academic records. Domestic students are also eligible for this offer, however their eligibility is based on having a GPA that places them in the top 5% of applicants to MSU from their respective schools.
