Kenya’s Strathmore University was chosen to partake in an international graduate training program supported by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.
The Industry Immersion Programme (IIP), which is a tuition-free joint initiative by [ESMT Berlin](https://esmt.berlin/) and the [African Institute for Mathematical Science](https://nexteinstein.org/) (AIMS), aims to prepare Africa’s brightest Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) graduates as they shift from academia to industry.
As a result, Strathmore University – Kenya will be added to the list of training centers for the program delivered via the [German Academic Exchange Programme](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/daad-helmut-schmidt-masters-scholarships-for-public-policy-and-good-governance-deadline-july-31-2021/) (DAAD).

### IIP’s global scaling
Furthermore, the said program is part of a bigger initiative which aims to further scale across the continent.
“The partnership between ESMT and Canada’s Academics Without Borders (AWB) during the last quarter of 2020 resulted in scaling the IIP from AIMS to Strathmore University in Kenya,” mentioned IIP program lead David Attipoe.
Additionally, Strathmore is the first university to welcome the new program, alongside AIMS training centres in South Africa, Rwanda and Ghana which have been conducting training since inception of IIP five years ago.

“AWB’s mission of train-the-trainer aims to recruit volunteers who will assist in transferring program management and tutoring skills to the local team at Strathmore University,” Attipoe added.
According to him, the strategy’s end result hopes to encourage other African institutions to integrate parallel initiatives for their STEM graduates.
The initiative has selected Strathmore since it is one of the most reputable business training institutions in the region. Meanwhile, the IIP was established to bridge the gap between academically-gifted ‘quantitative’ graduates from across Africa who want to apply their skills in industry, but may otherwise lack the necessary experience to enter the business world.
“Ultimately, they aim to build sustainable educational solutions,” the program lead concluded.
