About the Strathmore University – Kenya takes part in German STEM initiative (2026)

Kenya’s Strathmore University was chosen to partake in an international graduate training program supported by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development. The Industry Immersion Programme (IIP), which is a tuition-free joint initiative by [ESMT Berlin](https://esmt.berlin/) and the [African Institute for Mathematical Science](https://nexteinstein.org/) (AIMS), aims to prepare Africa’s brightest Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) graduates as they shift from academia to industry. As a result, Strathmore University – Kenya will be added to the list of training centers for the program delivered via the [German Academic Exchange Programme](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/daad-helmut-schmidt-masters-scholarships-for-public-policy-and-good-governance-deadline-july-31-2021/) (DAAD). ![](https://i0.wp.com/scholarshipsforafricans.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/pexels-rfstudio-3825527.jpg?resize=1140%2C641&ssl=1)Strathmore University in Kenya is the first university to welcome the program. \| Photo by **[RF._.studio](https://www.pexels.com/@rethaferguson?utm_content=attributionCopyText&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=pexels)** from **[Pexels](https://www.pexels.com/photo/crop-chemist-holding-in-hands-molecule-model-3825527/?utm_content=attributionCopyText&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=pexels)** ### IIP’s global scaling Furthermore, the said program is part of a bigger initiative which aims to further scale across the continent. “The partnership between ESMT and Canada’s Academics Without Borders (AWB) during the last quarter of 2020 resulted in scaling the IIP from AIMS to Strathmore University in Kenya,” mentioned IIP program lead David Attipoe. Additionally, Strathmore is the first university to welcome the new program, alongside AIMS training centres in South Africa, Rwanda and Ghana which have been conducting training since inception of IIP five years ago. ### Program application at Strathmore University “AWB’s mission of train-the-trainer aims to recruit volunteers who will assist in transferring program management and tutoring skills to the local team at Strathmore University,” Attipoe added. According to him, the strategy’s end result hopes to encourage other African institutions to integrate parallel initiatives for their STEM graduates. The initiative has selected Strathmore since it is one of the most reputable business training institutions in the region. Meanwhile, the IIP was established to bridge the gap between academically-gifted ‘quantitative’ graduates from across Africa who want to apply their skills in industry, but may otherwise lack the necessary experience to enter the business world. “Ultimately, they aim to build sustainable educational solutions,” the program lead concluded. * * * _brought to you by Scholarships for Africans_ [**Scholarships for Africans**](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/) is a premier scholarship information blog committed to bringing more opportunities for Africans globally. How to apply for the Strathmore University – Kenya takes part in German STEM initiative 2026

A practical, sponsor-agnostic sequence used by >95% of international scholarship applicants. Adapt to the sponsor's specific portal — the order rarely changes.

  1. 1
Confirm eligibility on the official site

Open https://esmt.berlin/ and verify your country, level of study and English-language status against the current call. Sponsor rules change between intakes — never rely on third-party summaries alone.

  2. 2
Secure a study place or admission offer

Apply to the host university or programme first where required, and obtain a conditional admission letter. A growing number of sponsors only fund applicants who already hold an offer.

  3. 3
Sit required tests and gather documents

Register for IELTS / TOEFL / Duolingo (or SAT / GRE where required), request official transcripts, brief two or three referees, and prepare passport and identity documents at high resolution.

  4. 4
    Draft your essays and statements

Write a 500–1,000-word personal statement and any additional essays the sponsor specifies. Anchor each essay in concrete examples and tie your goals back to the sponsor's mission.

  5. 5
    Complete the online application

Create an account on https://esmt.berlin/, fill in every field, and upload the required documents in the formats specified (PDF, max file size, single-file vs multi-file). Save progress frequently — most portals time out after 30–60 minutes.

  6. 6
Submit by N/A (aim 7 days early)

Sponsor portals routinely slow or fail in the final 24 hours. Submit early, download the confirmation receipt, and screenshot the submission timestamp. Late submissions are not accepted under any circumstances.

  7. 7
    Prepare for shortlist interviews

If shortlisted, Various will contact you within 4–12 weeks. Re-read your essays, rehearse 3–5 likely questions out loud, and confirm your time zone for any video interview.
