AIMS is a pan-African network of centers of excellence. Through the organization, Africa’s talented innovators are gathered and given space for scientific, educational, and economic opportunities. First established in 2003, AIMS is focused on training students in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) field to become Africa’s next generation of leaders. Currently, the institution has six centers found in South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon, Tanzania, and Rwanda, respectively. **Application Deadline: July 31, 2021 \| 23:59 CAT** #### Table of contents - [Benefits of the Fellowship in Climate Change Science](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/african-institute-for-mathematical-sciences-fellowship-for-women-in-climate-change-science/#h-benefits-of-the-fellowship-in-climate-change-science) - [Eligibility of Women](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/african-institute-for-mathematical-sciences-fellowship-for-women-in-climate-change-science/#h-eligibility-of-women) - [How to Apply for the AIMS Fellowship](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/african-institute-for-mathematical-sciences-fellowship-for-women-in-climate-change-science/#h-how-to-apply-for-the-aims-fellowship) ![](https://i0.wp.com/scholarshipsforafricans.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/AIMS-NEI-Mathematical-Sciences-for-Climate-Resilience-Internship-Program-2020.png?resize=1024%2C538&ssl=1)AIMS is a pan-African network of centers of excellence first established in 2003. \| **Photo credit: T [he African Institute for Mathematical Sciences](https://nexteinstein.org/)** ## Benefits of the Fellowship in Climate Change Science Up to $35,000 award money will be given to accepted AIMS fellows. However, the specific amount allotted will only be revealed once the fellowship program has officially started. This is to make sure that all applicants have been taken into account since the number of awards recipients has not yet been specified. Additionally, the fellow/s will receive the amount in three installments, the schedule of which will be determined upon the start of the award. By the end of the year, 20 fellowship awards will have been given to outstanding female scientists currently residing anywhere in the world. The call for applications is extended for women working on the following aspects of Climate Change Science: - revealing the triggers of our changing climate - mapping past, current and future climate patterns - increasing our knowledge of the impacts of these climate patterns on humanity and life on earth - providing recommendations and solutions on how best to adapt, mitigate or increase our resilience to climate change and its associated impacts, etc. In turn, the qualified women should be able to implement a self-started project at an approved African host institution, preferably partnered with AIMS. The undertaking must potentially be able to create a substantial impact to the understanding of climate change as well as the development of innovative policies and strategies for mitigation, adaptation, and/or resilience. ## Eligibility of Women In order to be qualified for the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences’ prestigious fellowship for women in Climate Change Science, applicants must meet the following criteria: - First and foremost, the aspiring fellows should be female. - They should also be in possession of a doctorate degree in a quantitative discipline such as applied mathematics, climatology, physics, chemistry, computer science, theoretical biology, and engineering before the fellowship commences. - The women scientists must be presently employed in a non-profit work environment. - Furthermore, the prospective fellows should be actively engaged in research, policy, and/or a practice relevant to Climate Change Science. - Lastly, the scientists must have already been a lead or senior author of any publication, paper, or study related to the field of Climate Change. ## How to Apply for the AIMS Fellowship Interested women in the field of Climate Change Science may apply for the AIM fellowship by filling up an [online application form](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc7PGre8QtSv60zXSVL9T3f0dbEi9cUXX_NVeY5rI7O65-ncQ/viewform). • Passport-sized photograph meeting ICAO biometric standards
  • Research proposal or statement of purpose (500–2,000 words for PhD)
  • Published or unpublished writing sample (PhD and research-led Masters)
  • Country-of-origin proof (national ID or birth certificate) — required by many Africa-focused funders

Deadline timeline

The sponsor has not published a fixed deadline yet. Use the milestones below as a generic 12-month plan; substitute dates once the intake window opens.
