The University of Central Lancashire offers scholarships for South Africans at all levels.

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in the UK is opening its doors with several scholarships for South Africans who want to invest in quality education.

Furthermore, UCLan upholds a solid emphasis on employability, ranking in the top three in the UK for the number of graduate start-up businesses, with many degree programs developed in collaboration with and linked to industrial partners.

With the tagline: “Where opportunity creates success,” UCLan has become a leading UK multi-campus university in terms of modern learning. In fact, it became the first modern university to be named in the QS World Rankings.

In addition to UCLan’s main city centre campus, it has facilities in Burnley, Westlakes in Cumbria and Llangollen Outdoor Centre in North Wales. 24,000 students from 100 different countries are enrolled, making it one of the largest student bodies in the country.

With over 600 combined undergraduate and postgraduate courses available, the University of Central Lancashire has been a leader in emerging disciplines. This include Fashion and Forensic Science, as well as newer additions such as Dentistry and Aerospace Engineering.

Available Scholarships for South Africans

The University of Central Lancashire’s main goal is to help as many people seize every opportunity to flourish in education, at work, and for life. One of the way by which they touch base with their mission is through offering opportunities both for local and international students.

UCLan’s scholarships for South Africans present a broad range of support services designed to make the transition into student life as easy as possible for new students. Among them are free orientation programme and airport pickup, free English language support throughout the first year and free membership to the International Students Society.

Furthermore, students are assigned a buddy who is already familiar with life in the UK, and international students do not have to move out of university accommodation during holidays.

As of writing, here are the following available scholarships for South Africans at the University of Central Lancashire, sorted by level.

UCLan Undergraduate

Ashinaga Scholarship for Orphaned Children

The Ashinaga Scholarship helps around 6,000 orphans fulfill their dream of attending university. Overall, the opportunity is extended to 46 sub-Saharan African countries. The following programmes, however, are excluded: distance learning, degree apprenticeships, professional placements, and work-based learning.

Excellence Scholarship

UCLan offers £3,000 per year of study on a South African scholar’s chosen program, so long as they have achieved excellent grades in their studies prior to pursuing an undergraduate within the university.

Family Loyalty Scholarship

The Family Loyalty Scholarship is available to the sibling, spouse or child of someone who is either currently studying on, or who has graduated from, a full-time course with UCLan.

GEMS Education Scholarship

Tuition fee discount worth £2,000 per year of study is available for South African applicants who have completed their high school education at one of the eligible GEMS schools. Please visit the official GEMS website to check the list of qualified schools.

International Bursary

An international bursary of £1,000 per year of study is available to international students enrolling with UCLan in the next academic year.

Merit Scholarship

If the interested South African students have achieved exemplary grades in the previous studies, they will be viable for a £2,000 tuition fee discount per year of study, courtesy of the Merit Scholarship.

Northern Consortium (NCUK) Scholarship

In celebration of UCLan’s partnership with NCUK, a £2,000 tuition fee discount per year of study will be made available to students who have successfully completed NCUK programs and opted to progress to the University of Central Lancashire for further degree study.

ONCampus Scholarship

Interested South African applicants from any ONCAMPUS study centre are eligible for the ONCampus Scholarship worth £2,000 per year.

Short Term Loan

UCLan is able to provide short term loans of up to £250, based upon a student’s individual needs. This support, aimed at students experiencing extreme financial difficulties, is allotted for the cost of basic food and toiletries for a short period of time.

Sports Scholarships

Up to £5,000 in cash support, packages, free sports facility membership, and free physiotherapy sessions are among the available benefits for the three packages of Sports Scholarships at UCLan. This is designed for student athletes who are working toward their athletic careers and also studying for a high-quality degree at the same time.

UCLan Postgraduate

Chevening – UK Government Scholarship

Chevening is the UK Government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders. The program offers a unique opportunity for future leaders and influencers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK.  Tuition fee discount amounts vary.

International Alumni Scholarship

South Africans who have obtained a First or Second class degree with UCLan and has chosen the same university for their postgraduate taught studies are eligible to receive between £2,000 and £5,000.

UCLan Postgraduate Research

MA by Research Scholarships in North Korean Studies

The International Institute of Korean Studies (IKSU) at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is offering MA by Research scholarships in North Korean Studies for 2021/22 academic year. They are looking for highly motivated students who have excellent academic grades at undergraduate level and are committed to high quality critical study about North Korea.

Postgraduate Research Funding Opportunities

UCLan advertises a range of funding schemes for postgraduate research at various times through the year. These include the University’s own studentships and bursaries and those from external organizations, including the Research Councils, the NHS, commerce and industry.
