ABE Initiative SDGs Global Leader Program for Masters and PhD Scholarships

The ABE Initiative SDGs Global Leader Program aims to award two-year masters and three-year PhD scholarships for young African leaders. Read on to know more if you qualify for the opportunity.

Benefits of the ABE Initiative SDGs Global Leader Program

The program intends to strengthen the partnership between Africa and Japan, as well as the implementation of political-strategic decision-making and execution, in order to capacitate young or mid-career human resources who are contributing to tackling difficulties faced in numerous disciplines.

Applicants should ideally be middle-management government employees or academics who are passionate about making a difference in public policy administration and economics and want to be active in policy formulation, politics, and development challenges.

Participants in the program may also be interested in participating in “Additional Programs,” which include networking events with Japanese companies and internship opportunities. The Japan Development Studies Program (JICA-DSP), which gives information about Japan’s modernization, World War II, and development experiences, is also promoted.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the ABE Initiative SDGs Global Leader Scholarship must meet the following requirements:

  • Be under the age of 40 (before 1 April 2022)
  • For Master’s Degree, a Bachelor’s degree (including B-Tech) with honors or equivalent to NQF8 is required, as well as a 65 percent average in academic transcripts.
  • For a Doctor’s Degree, you must have a Master’s degree (NQF9) and a minimum academic transcript average of 65 percent.
  • Have worked in the current organization for more than six months

To apply, you must first get authorization from the present organization and then be reinstated.
