Most international universities according to Times Higher Education

5. Imperial College London

More than 60% of its students are international, with undergraduates coming from over 125 countries. Clubs and support services with an international focus at Imperial College include International Medical Careers and the Indian National Student Association.

4. University of Oxford

The University of Oxford is not only the top university in the world for the sixth year in a row, but it also happens to be one of the most internationally-diverse.

Over a third of students at the University of Oxford are international students coming from 160 countries and territories. In fact, international students have been attending the University of Oxford for hundreds of years, with the first international student arriving way back in 1190.

Forty percent of the staff at the university are also international and the institution has links with many other institutions worldwide.

Oxford has an alumni network of over 250,000 individuals, including more than 120 Olympic medalists, 26 Nobel Prize winners, seven poet laureates, and over 30 modern world leaders (Bill Clinton, Aung San Suu Kyi, Indira Gandhi, and 26 UK Prime Ministers, among them).

The university is also associated with 11 winners of the Nobel Prize in chemistry, five in physics, and 16 in medicine. Notable Oxford thinkers and scientists include Tim Berners-Lee, Stephen Hawking, and Richard Dawkins. The actors Hugh Grant and Rosamund Pike also went to Oxford, as did the writers Oscar Wilde, Graham Greene, Vikram Seth, and Philip Pullman.

3. Chinese University of Hong Kong

The Chinese University of Hong Kong is a comprehensive research university with a global vision and a mission to combine tradition with modernity, and to bring together China and the West.

Furthermore, the institution has exchange partnerships with more than 282 institutions in 36 countries and regions. Some 6,000 students study abroad or take part in a learning abroad program or internship.

2. ETH Zurich

ETH Zurich has more than 22,000 students from over 120 countries and is the top university in continental Europe. In addition, it is now considered among some of the world’s most prestigious universities in science and technology.

The university focuses on teaching and research in STEM subjects, and 21 Nobel prizes have been awarded to students and teachers connected to the institution. One of the most famous alumni is Albert Einstein.

1. University of Hong Kong

On a mission to become “Asia’s global university”, the University of Hong Kong aims to give all its undergraduates two opportunities to study outside Hong Kong during their degree by 2022.

Overall, this institution has more than 30,000 students, of which more than 35% are international. The primary language used in this institution is English and the overall education has an international focus, with the aim of preparing students to become global citizens who could be successful anywhere in the world.
