SAWISE Angus Scholarship for African Women in Science and Engineering

SAWISE, or the Association of South African Women in Science and Engineering, is inviting female students entering their 4th year of study to apply for the Angus Scholarships.

Benefits of the Angus Scholarship

Recipients of the SAWISE Angus Scholarship for African women are entitled to receive R 15,000. The amount shall be used to cover one year of full-time study.

Only incoming fourth-year or honors level African female students in the field of Science and Engineering are welcome to avail this opportunity.

About SAWISE

The Association of South African Women in Science and Engineering (SAWISE) is a dynamic association for all those who support the idea of strengthening the role of women in science and engineering in Africa.

SAWISE aims to strengthen this role by:

  • raising the profile of women scientists and engineers
  • highlighting and addressing problems faced specifically by women in these fields
  • lobbying for the advancement of women in science and engineering
  • providing leadership and role models for young people wishing to enter the fields of science and engineering
  •  

An important function of SAWISE is to improve communication among women scientists and engineers. Contact with other associations of women in science and engineering worldwide is also fostered through an exchange of ideas and information.

Eligibility Criteria for African Women

In order to qualify for the SAWISE Angus Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

i. Participants must be sub-Saharan Black females.
ii. She must have achieved 70% or above grade average in her subject of study.
iii. The award is only for students at honors level (or fourth-year equivalent e.g. in Engineering).
iv. Any field of Science and Engineering is allowed.

To start the application process, please fill in the SAWISE Angus Scholarship online application form.

Upon applying, the following documents must be attached:

a. Curriculum vitae.
b. An official academic transcript (record).
c. A letter of motivation (~350 words).
d. A certified copy of your ID.
