About this scholarship

![West African Students Abroad](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/pexels-kampus-production-5940841.jpg) [starportillo](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/author/beyondstellar/) [June 8, 2021June 24, 2021](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/2021/06/08/) The [United Kingdom Education Advisory Service](https://ukeas.com/) (UKEAS) has recently reported that 82% of West African scholars and applicants intend to enroll in September. Known for its free global services, UKEAS is an education consultancy which provides impartial counselling and application services for international students wishing to study in the UK. After conducting a sentiment survey comprised of over 4,000 applicants, the organization has also noted that there has been a greater level of caution and indecision among prospective Asian students. “The possibility of catching COVID was expressed as a big concern by 71% of Asian respondents, compared to just 33% in West Africa,” as stated in the report. ![](https://i0.wp.com/scholarshipsforafricans.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/pexels-kampus-production-5940710.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&ssl=1)Photo by **[Kampus Production](https://www.pexels.com/@kampus?utm_content=attributionCopyText&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=pexels)** from **[Pexels](https://www.pexels.com/photo/smart-young-ethnic-guy-browsing-laptop-during-lesson-in-university-5940710/?utm_content=attributionCopyText&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=pexels)** In contrast, West African scholars and applicants said that securing a VISA or flight was their second most common concern about studying in the UK. This was a low-ranking concern among Asian respondents. “The majority of our respondents expressed willingness to start classes in person. More students in West Africa are willing to actually start classes online in the UK \[as opposed to having online classes in their home country\] than students in Asia,” UKEAS Business and Financial Analyst, Jose Sosa, emphasized. Furthermore, the education consultancy has observed that the survey results follow a general pattern of sentiment that has developed since the COVID outbreak. According to UKEAS Partnerships Head Richard Jones, West African scholars are more likely to leave their home country and study in the UK since students are looking to get involved with post-study work opportunities, whereas Asians are more hesitant and are still waiting to see what happens. * * * The survey, which has a 35% global response rate, was conducted between April 13 and May 6. ### Share this: - [Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Facebook](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/more-west-africans-study-in-uk/?share=facebook&nb=1) - [Share on X (Opens in new window)X](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/more-west-africans-study-in-uk/?share=twitter&nb=1) - [Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)WhatsApp](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/more-west-africans-study-in-uk/?share=jetpack-whatsapp&nb=1) - [Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)LinkedIn](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/more-west-africans-study-in-uk/?share=linkedin&nb=1) - [Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Telegram](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/more-west-africans-study-in-uk/?share=telegram&nb=1) - [More](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/more-west-africans-study-in-uk/#) - [Print (Opens in new window)Print](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/more-west-africans-study-in-uk/#print?share=print&nb=1) - [Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Reddit](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/more-west-africans-study-in-uk/?share=reddit&nb=1) - [Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)Tumblr](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/more-west-africans-study-in-uk/?share=tumblr&nb=1) - [Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)Pinterest](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/more-west-africans-study-in-uk/?share=pinterest&nb=1) ### Like this: LikeLoading... ### _Related_ [Safest Study Destinations in 2021 are New Zealand and Canada – Navitas](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/safest-study-destinations-in-2021-are-new-zealand-and-canada-navitas/ "Safest Study Destinations in 2021 are New Zealand and Canada – Navitas") [Recommended UK Universities for Distance Learning](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/uk-universities-distance-learning/ "Recommended UK Universities for Distance Learning") [The most internationally-diverse universities in the world – Times Higher Education](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/the-most-internationally-diverse-universities-in-the-world-times-higher-education/ "The most internationally-diverse universities in the world – Times Higher Education") In[COVID-19](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/tag/covid-19/), [report](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/tag/report/), [Study in the United Kingdom](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/tag/study-in-the-united-kingdom/), [survey](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/tag/survey/), [United Kingdom](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/tag/united-kingdom/), [West Africans](https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/tag/west-africans/) ## 3 thoughts on “UKEAS: More West Africans expressing intent to study in the UK” 1. Eligibility criteria

Always cross-check eligibility against the sponsor's official site before applying — sponsor rules can change between intakes.

  • English-language proficiency demonstrated by IELTS, TOEFL or an MOI letter

  • Curriculum vitae / résumé (1–2 pages, reverse-chronological)
  • Personal statement or motivation letter (500–1,000 words, tailored to the sponsor)
  • Two to three reference letters (academic for students, professional for working applicants)
  • Proof of English proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo) — Medium-of-Instruction letter may substitute for Anglophone-Africa graduates
  • Passport-sized photograph meeting ICAO biometric standards
  • Country-of-origin proof (national ID or birth certificate) — required by many Africa-focused funders

Deadline timeline

The sponsor has not published a fixed deadline yet. Use the milestones below as a generic 12-month plan; substitute dates once the intake window opens.

Register for tests (IELTS/TOEFL/SAT/GRE), shortlist 3–5 universities, identify referees.

  2. 6 months out

Sit your tests, draft a personal statement, request transcripts and confirm reference letters.

  3. 3 months out

Finalise essays, upload supporting documents, complete the online application portal.

  4. 1 month out

Final review, double-check uploaded files, submit a week before the deadline to avoid portal issues.

  5. Application deadline

Submit by 23:59 in the sponsor's stated time zone — usually local to the sponsor, not your country.
