South African citizens who have applied for, been accepted onto or are registered for a full undergraduate, advanced diploma, postgraduate diploma or master's qualification in Disaster Management or Fire Technology / Fire Engineering at a recognised South African public higher education institution. Certificates and PhDs are excluded. Minimum 60% average for undergraduate, advanced diploma and postgraduate diploma applicants; 65% for master's applicants, who must also submit a CV and a research proposal on one of the 16 priority thematic areas.

## Overview The National Disaster Management Centre, part of South Africa's Department of Cooperative Governance, funds students who are training for careers in disaster risk reduction, emergency management and fire services. The 2027 call is open now. ## Level and destination Full undergraduate, advanced diploma, postgraduate diploma and master's qualifications in Disaster Management or Fire Technology / Fire Engineering, at a recognised South African public higher education institution. Certificates and PhD study are not funded. ## Eligibility * South African citizen. * Applied for, accepted onto, or registered for a qualifying full programme. * Minimum 60% average for undergraduate, advanced diploma and postgraduate diploma applicants. * Minimum 65% average for master's applicants, plus a two-page CV and a research proposal on one of the Centre's 16 priority thematic areas. ## Funding coverage and exclusions The 2027 advertisement states 100% of tuition fees including registration. Eligible master's students may also receive a research allowance of up to R11,000. Accommodation, meals, books and travel are **not** covered — budget for these yourself. ## Deadline 30 September 2026 at 23:59. The portal does not print a timezone; treat it as South African time and submit well before the day closes. ## How to apply 1. Open the online bursary system on a desktop or laptop — it does not work on phones or tablets. 2. Complete the application form. 3.
