Présentation du programme
Commonwealth Professional Fellowships fund mid-career professionals from low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries to spend 3 to 12 months at a UK host organisation — a university, NGO, professional body, regulatory agency or research institute. The placement is co-designed with the host and tightly focused on a defined professional skill the fellow will bring back home. ## Why this scholarship matters for African applicants Unlike academic scholarships, these fellowships are designed for working professionals (typically 5+ years' experience) in policy, health, education, civil service, journalism, governance and the creative industries. African fellows have used the programme to shape national digital policy, modernise public health surveillance, and lead newsroom transformation. ## What the award covers Return economy airfare, monthly living stipend, accommodation allowance, professional placement fees paid to the UK host, and access to a Commonwealth alumni network. Some placements include additional study-tour budgets and skills-development workshops. ## How the selection process works Applications are made by the UK host organisation (not the individual fellow) to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. To be considered, you partner with a UK host whose work overlaps with yours and they nominate you through their organisational call. The CSC reviews host applications competitively. ## Application tips that move the needle Find the UK host first. Map UK regulators, NGOs and research centres in your sector, email the head of programmes with a one-page placement concept, and ask them to nominate you in the next CSC host call. Strong fellowships have a clear deliverable (e.g. a draft national framework, a published research paper, a redesigned curriculum). ## Deadlines and intake windows UK host organisations apply to CSC twice a year — typically January and July rounds. Fellow placements then run from the following May or November. ## Useful internal reading - Browse open scholarships: https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/scholarships - How to write a winning scholarship essay: https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/blog/how-to-write-winning-scholarship-essay - Scholarship interview questions for African students: https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/blog/scholarship-interview-questions-african-students Always confirm the live intake on the sponsor's official site before you build a timeline around it.
