نظرة عامة على البرنامج
ISSF (Insects as Solutions for a Sustainable Future) is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master delivered by Wageningen University & Research, Ghent University, the University of Copenhagen and Stellenbosch University. It trains the next generation of scientists working on insects as food, feed, and a tool for circular food systems — one of the fastest-growing areas in sustainable agriculture. ## Why this scholarship matters for African applicants Africa is the global hotspot for edible insect production (mopane worm, palm weevil larvae, black soldier fly farming for feed). African graduates with ISSF training are positioned for roles in FAO, ICIPE, agritech startups, and national research institutes leading the continent's transition to lower-impact protein systems. ## What the award covers Full tuition for the two-year master's, one-off €1,000 travel and installation grant, additional travel allowance for Partner Country students, and a monthly living stipend of €1,400 paid for the full duration of the programme. Insurance included. ## How the selection process works Apply directly to the ISSF consortium through Wageningen University's admissions portal. A bachelor's in life sciences, agricultural sciences, food science, biotechnology or related fields is required, plus English-language proficiency and a research-oriented motivation letter. ## Application tips that move the needle Strengthen the motivation letter with a concrete African food-system angle — e.g. black soldier fly larvae for poultry feed in Kenya, mopane worm value chain in Southern Africa, edible insect food safety standards. Cite Stellenbosch and ICIPE research and explain how you would translate the master's into a return project. ## Deadlines and intake windows Scholarship-eligible application deadline typically falls in mid-February for September intake. Check the ISSF page on the Erasmus Mundus catalogue. ## Useful internal reading - Browse open scholarships: https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/scholarships - How to write a winning scholarship essay: https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/blog/how-to-write-winning-scholarship-essay - Scholarship interview questions for African students: https://scholarshipsforafricans.com/blog/scholarship-interview-questions-african-students Always confirm the live intake on the sponsor's official site before you build a timeline around it.
