Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University offers PhD studentships for international students

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, in collaboration with Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute, is providing PhD studentships worth RMB 80,000 for international students looking to study in China.

The studentship is a fully-funded opportunity that will cover tuition fees, living expenses, travel allowance, and even meals. Furthermore, applicants from all over the world can apply to avail this grant.

The institute will provide the winners a position in a PhD degree programme of their choice worth RMB 80,000 per annum and also give them 5000 RMB towards living expenses for the duration of their study in China, i.e., three years.

How To Apply for Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University PhD Studentships

Internationals students must complete the online application form by uploading the following supporting documents:

  • Research proposal
  • Full academic transcripts of university studies and grading system
  • University degree certificate or enrolment statement
  • Verification report of degree certificate
  • A copy of the Master dissertation (or an equivalent writing sample) and examiners reports, if applicable
  • Certificates of English language qualifications
  • Personal statement
  • Two formal reference letters
  • A copy of passport


In terms of admission requirements, the applicants should have a first-class or upper second class honors degree. The international student can also have a master’s degree in a relevant area to be accepted in a PhD degree program under this application .

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool also has a laguange requirement for incoming PhD studentship holders. In order to pursue studying in China, the aspirants must attain minimum required scores in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Students are to achieve a 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in each English language proficiency test component.
