MPOWER Financing shall be awarding three scholarships for international students. The recipients must be currently enrolled in an MPOWER Financing partner college or university for study in the US and in Canada.
In recognition of the extraordinary potential of scholars, they have created the MPOWER Global Citizen Scholarship. The grant shall be closing its application by July 20, 2021.
To match the broad, diverse experiences of international and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students, the organization has intentionally designed the Global Citizen Scholarship to be as broad as possible. There’s no requirement to be an MPOWER borrower to apply.
Who Can Apply for MPOWER Scholarships?
The international scholarships are open for students who fit in the following descriptions:
- Scholars must be accepted at or enrolled in a full-time degree program at a US or Canadian school that MPOWER supports.
- The said students must be allowed to legally study in the US or Canada.
- FOR STUDY IN THE US, this means that the applicant meets at least one valid criterion. First, applicants must have a valid visa that permits study in the U.S. On another note, they must be protected under DACA. Lastly, they should hold a U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder).
- FOR STUDY IN CANADA, the student must be a Canadian permanent resident. They should also have a valid Canadian study permit.
- FOR STUDY IN THE US, this means that the applicant meets at least one valid criterion. First, applicants must have a valid visa that permits study in the U.S. On another note, they must be protected under DACA. Lastly, they should hold a U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder).
- Finally, MPOWER wants someone who is excited to share their dreams with the MPOWER team and the world.
What are the Benefits for International students?
MPOWER Financing Scholarships annually award international and DACA students.
Two $1,000 honorable mention beneficiaries and one grand prize of $5,000. The scholarship is specifically made for international and DACA students. Therefore, US citizens wishing to study in the US and Canadian citizens wishing to study in Canada are not eligible for this scholarship.
MPOWER believes not just in expanding access to higher education. They also hope to create globally-minded, multi-lingual, culturally-competent graduates poised to take on the world’s most pressing problems in science, technology, business, and public policy.
Process and Eligibility Requirements
Award selection for MPOWER international scholarships will be based entirely on the judges’ scores of the submitted essays.
Evaluation will delve into an applicant’s grammar, spelling, and vocabulary. Furthermore, judges will also look into organization of thoughts and ideas. They will consider creativity & originality, as well as overall quality & coherence.
The organizing team shall notify winners. In turn, winners must provide proof of enrollment and other documents for the purpose of verifying eligibility.
