How to prepare for local scholarships in Uganda
1. Choose the right funding route
Compare Makerere's Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program with foundation awards such as Madhvani. Government-sponsored university places are a separate admissions route; they do not share one scholarship application form.
2. Check admission and course eligibility
Follow the admission instructions for your chosen Ugandan university and the specific scholarship call. Makerere undergraduate and master's applicants follow different routes. Do not assume an offer automatically secures scholarship funding.
3. Prepare your academic documents
Keep your UCE/UACE certificates or degree transcripts, identity documents and admission evidence ready. Use the new call's checklist to confirm certification requirements and any references or personal statement.
4. Document financial need honestly
If a call assesses financial need, provide only the evidence it requests and disclose other funding. Do not reuse an old form or assume last year's income thresholds and eligibility still apply.
5. Wait for the official 2027 notice
The watchlist's mid-2027 label is an estimate only. Check each official announcement for the opening date, closing date and current application route. Some programmes may announce earlier or later, and a new round is not guaranteed.
6. Submit and track your own application
Use only the official submission channel specified in the new call. Keep a copy and any receipt, follow shortlisting instructions, and read the award conditions before accepting. Check renewal and reporting duties in the award letter.
Rules change each year — always confirm on Makerere University announcements and each foundation's own scholarship notice.
