Newberry Long-Term Fellowships

Any nationality; completed PhD/equivalent by application deadline; project requiring Newberry collections; continuous Chicago residency. Prior long-term recipients need a new project and must wait five years before another long-term award. Only one Newberry award may be accepted per fellowship year. Housing and visa fees are not separately funded.

Newberry Long-Term Fellowships Provider: Newberry Library Study destination: United States Study level: Postdoctoral Award USD5,000/month for four to nine months. Eligibility Any nationality; completed PhD/equivalent by application deadline; project requiring Newberry collections; continuous Chicago residency. Prior long-term recipients need a new project and must wait five years before another long-term award. Only one Newberry award may be accepted per fellowship year. Eligible African countries: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
