## Overview Knight-Hennessy Scholars is Stanford University's fully endowed leadership programme for graduate students. Scholars pursue a graduate degree in any of Stanford's seven schools while joining a multidisciplinary cohort built around independent thinking, purposeful leadership and a civic mindset. The award is one of the largest fully funded graduate scholarships in the world and is open to applicants of every nationality. ## Level and destination Eligible Stanford graduate degrees — including master's, PhD and professional programmes — at Stanford University, United States, starting in 2027. ## Eligibility for African applicants Applicants from all African countries are eligible. You must: * hold a first bachelor's degree earned in **January 2020 or later** (the official eligibility page lists exceptions to this rule); * apply separately to, and be admitted to, an eligible Stanford graduate degree programme; * submit both applications for the same enrolment year. ## Funding coverage and exclusions Knight-Hennessy covers tuition and associated fees, a living and academic stipend, and an annual travel allowance for one return trip to Stanford, for up to three years. Newly enrolling scholars also receive a one-time relocation stipend. Funding is subject to programme rules: for degrees longer than three years — and for MD students — the remaining years are funded by the school under its own commitment. Stipends are taxable. ## Deadlines * **Knight-Hennessy application: 6 October 2026, 13:00 Pacific Time.** The same deadline applies to every applicant. * **Stanford degree programme application:** the earlier of your programme's KHS deadline or **1 December 2026**. Applying to your degree programme after 1 December 2026 keeps you eligible for the degree but not for Knight-Hennessy. * **MBA applicants:** you must apply by the Stanford GSB **Round 1** deadline. ## How to apply 1. Choose the Stanford graduate programme you want to join and check its KHS deadline. 2. Submit the Knight-Hennessy application — essays, references and transcripts — by 6 October 2026, 13:00 PT. 3. Submit the separate Stanford degree application by the earlier of your programme's KHS deadline or 1 December 2026. 4.
