## Overview Dalhousie University, supported by the Killam Alumni Fund, offers the Killam International Research Scholarship to provide exceptional Killam Doctoral Scholars with global research opportunities. This prestigious award supports short-term research stays abroad, enabling scholars to build international academic connections, enhance their doctoral work, and gain valuable global experience. Only two awards are available, making it a highly competitive and distinguished supplement for Dalhousie’s top Killam Scholars. ## Benefits Successful applicants receive up to **$6,000** to cover a range of expenses associated with their international research, including: * International travel costs * Accommodation and meals abroad * Living expenses during the research period * Research-related fees and supplies * Study or travel visas * Insurance and other necessary expenditures The scholarship supports research stays of up to **3 months**. ## Eligibility To be considered for the Killam International Research Scholarship, applicants must meet the following strict criteria: * Be current **Killam Doctoral Scholarship holders** at Dalhousie University. * Have accepted or currently hold a **Level 2 Killam Predoctoral Award**. * Not have previously received a Killam International Research Award or any other international travel supplement (e.g., Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement). * Propose to conduct research that requires **physical presence abroad**. * Remain **registered full-time in a PhD program** throughout the entire research period. * Hold an active Killam award when the international research commences. * Commit to utilizing the award within **one year of receiving the notification**. * Agree to return to Dalhousie University to complete their degree program after the research stay abroad. ## Required documents Applicants are required to prepare and submit the following documents as part of their application: * A detailed **budget proposal** outlining how the up to $6,000 request will be utilized. * An **outline of the proposed research abroad** (maximum 2 pages, in plain language). This document should cover: * The objectives, significance, methodology, and expected outcomes of the research. * The direct relation of the proposed international research to the applicant's doctoral research at Dalhousie. * Clear timelines and milestones for the research period. * **Two letters of support**: * One from the applicant's current Dalhousie research supervisor. * One from the potential host supervisor abroad, confirming available resources and support for the applicant's research. ## Application steps To apply for the Killam International Research Scholarship, follow these steps: 1. **Prepare all required documents** including the budget proposal, detailed research outline, and both letters of support. 2. **Submit your complete application** via the FGS Online Scholarship Portal. 3. Ensure your submission is made by the deadline: **20 February 2026, 4:00 PM AST**. 4.
