IRD ARTS Research Grants for a PhD Thesis in the Global South

PhD students who are nationals of eligible Global South countries, enrolled in a doctoral school at home, with a thesis co-supervised by an IRD laboratory and a laboratory in their own country.

Présentation du programme

The ARTS programme (Allocations de recherche pour une thèse au Sud) is run by France's Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD). It funds doctoral students from the Global South to carry out a PhD jointly in an IRD laboratory and a laboratory in their home country, training the researchers and experts of tomorrow. African PhD students make up the largest share of ARTS awardees. ## What it covers - Monthly doctoral research allowance for up to three years - Mobility between the home laboratory and the IRD host laboratory in France - Scientific supervision by an IRD research team ## Who can apply Nationals of eligible Global South countries — which includes African countries — registered in a doctoral school at home, with a research project co-supervised by an IRD laboratory and a laboratory in their own country. Priority goes to research aligned with IRD's development-focused scientific programme. ## How to apply Applications are submitted through the annual ARTS call published on the IRD website, jointly with the proposed IRD supervisor.
