## Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme Established in 2009 by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) is designed to attract the world's brightest students to pursue PhD studies at Hong Kong's universities. ## Funding and Benefits For the 2025/26 academic year, the HKPFS provides an annual stipend of HK$340,800 (approximately US$43,690). Additionally, awardees receive a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$14,200 (approximately US$1,820) per year. This support is provided for a period of up to three years. For those PhD degrees requiring more than three years to complete, additional support may be available directly from the chosen universities. ## Eligibility and Selection To be eligible, candidates must be new full-time PhD students at one of the eight participating universities: City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Education University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and The University of Hong Kong. There are no restrictions based on country of origin, prior work experience, or ethnic background. Selection criteria prioritize academic excellence, but also consider research ability and potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities.
