It funds African students to complete a master's or PhD at a top US university and is administered country by country through US Embassies and bi-national Fulbright Commissions in Africa — including programmes in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia, Egypt, South Africa, Cameroon, Senegal and Rwanda. ## Why this scholarship matters for African applicants Fulbright is built around the 'two-year home-residency requirement': all African Fulbrighters return home for at least two years after graduation to apply what they learned. That commitment shapes selection — panels actively look for evidence that you will return and use the US degree to build something at home. ## What the award covers Tuition and fees at the host US university, monthly living stipend (varies by city), accident and sickness health insurance, round-trip economy airfare, settling-in allowance and access to professional development workshops, academic conferences and Fulbright alumni networks. ## How the selection process works Apply through the US Embassy or bi-national Fulbright Commission in your country. The cycle includes a country-level shortlist, in-person interview and academic placement by the Institute of International Education (IIE), which secures US university admission for shortlisted candidates.
