## Overview The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Edinburgh funds postgraduate study in Edinburgh for African students who show leadership, have faced barriers to education, and want to work on the climate crisis. Phase Two of the partnership runs to 2030. ## Level and destination Postgraduate study (taught master's and postgraduate diplomas) at the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Eligible programmes and delivery modes — on-campus and some online — vary by School, so check the published eligible-programme list for 2027/28 before you start. ## Eligibility for African applicants * Resident and citizen of an African country, or holding refugee status in one. * Academically qualified for an eligible Edinburgh postgraduate programme (normally a UK Second Class Upper honours degree or better). * Has faced significant barriers to education or early career — social, financial, personal, practical or health-related. * Demonstrated leadership and service in your community, and interest or experience in addressing the climate crisis. * Degree certificate and final transcript available to upload by 19 November 2026. ## Funding coverage Tuition, living costs, accommodation and travel support for the duration of the programme. Funding levels for online study differ from on-campus study — confirm your package against the programme's own scholarship details. ## Mandatory information session — before anything else For 2027/28 the University changed the process. You cannot reach the scholarship application form unless you attend one mandatory virtual information session between **15 and 24 September 2026**. Eligible attendees are told on **13 October 2026** whether they are invited to apply. ## Deadlines 1. Mandatory information session: 15–24 September 2026. 2. Applications open: 13 October 2026. 3. Applicant Declaration Form: 19 October 2026, 5pm UK time — and possibly earlier if capacity is reached, so submit it on the first day. 4. Full application, with degree certificate and official transcript: 19 November 2026, 5pm UK time. The scholarship application is separate from your application for the degree programme itself. You must do both. ## How to apply 1. Check the eligibility criteria on the official scholarship pages. 2. Register for and attend one information session between 15 and 24 September 2026. 3. Wait for the 13 October 2026 notification. 4.
