## Overview MARIHE — the Master in Research and Innovation in Higher Education — is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Degree delivered by a consortium of universities in Europe and Asia. Students move between partner institutions while studying how higher education systems are managed, funded, reformed and innovated. Graduates typically work in universities, ministries, funding agencies and education consultancies. ## Level and destination Master's degree, studied in multiple countries across Europe and Asia according to the consortium's mobility path. The programme is coordinated from Austria by the University for Continuing Education Krems (Danube University Krems). ## Eligibility for African applicants Open worldwide, including applicants from every African country. You need: * a qualifying bachelor's degree of at least three years, in any discipline; * proof of English proficiency at the level the programme requires; * the nine mandatory application documents listed on the MARIHE site. ## Funding coverage and exclusions Participation costs (tuition) of €18,000 are covered for **all** admitted students. Erasmus Mundus scholarship holders additionally receive: * a monthly allowance of **€1,400 for up to 24 months** (a maximum of €33,600); * health and accident insurance meeting Erasmus Mundus requirements. Be realistic about the competition: Erasmus Mundus scholarships are awarded to a small number of applicants, and being admitted to MARIHE does **not** guarantee the monthly allowance. Costs such as document legalisation, visa fees, travel and housing are paid by the student and are not reimbursed. Applicants from under-represented backgrounds or who are first in their family to study, and who do not hold an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, may apply for a separate MARIHE contribution of up to €6,000 towards travel and visa costs. ## Deadline **Round 1: 21 September 2026 at 10:00 CEST.** A second round closes 11 December 2026 at 10:00 CET; Erasmus Mundus scholarships are decided in the first round, so apply now if you want to be considered for funding. ## Application notice (checked 18 September 2026) MARIHE has reported a technical problem that can make the registration function unavailable. The consortium asks affected applicants who already have a complete set of documents to email **marihe@donau-uni.ac.at by 20 September, 23:59 CEST**, giving their full name and the email address they intended to register with, and to send no attachments. This is a workaround for the registration fault — it is not a general extension of the 21 September deadline. ## How to apply 1. Read the list of nine mandatory documents on the MARIHE application page and prepare them all. 2. Register on the MARIHE application system and complete the online form. 3. Upload your documents and submit before 21 September 2026, 10:00 CEST. 4.
