Previous recipients who started JSPS Standard or Pathway fellowships are excluded. For FY2027, the six-year PhD window is assessed from 1 April 2027; expected PhDs must be conferred by fellowship start.

JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan (Standard) Provider: Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Study destination: Japan Study level: Postdoctoral research Award JPY 362,000 monthly, return airfare, JPY 200,000 settling-in allowance and insurance; 12–24 months. Eligible African countries: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe. All other academic, residency and programme requirements also apply.
